HALF-WAVE RECTIFICATION CIRCUIT
The
diagram shows a simplified half-wave rectification circuit. When the current
flows in the direction indicated by the arrow, the graph of current against
time follows the sine curve until T/2.

At
T=T/2, the current is about to change direction. However, the flow of current
in the opposite direction is obstructed by the pn-junction diode. Thus,
the overall result obtained is a half-wave for period T. This is how half-wave
rectification occurs in an AC circuit.
